Dacia adds an Extreme version to its Spring, not so extreme as that

Dacia is taking advantage of the Brussels Auto Show to present a new version of the Dacia Spring. This version called “Extreme” is more powerful, better finished and a little more expensive. What to think?

Apart from several price increases and the new brand logo, the Dacia Spring offer had not changed since its launch. A new “Spring Extreme” finish, presented on January 13, 2023 at the Brussels Motor Show, brings a little novelty to this electric car that has become essential in France.

This new finish of the Spring incorporates aesthetic modifications, but above all a new engine exclusive to this version.

Goodbye Emotion finish, hello Extreme finish

Concretely, Dacia does not add a new finish to the Spring. There will still only be two versions of the Dacia Spring: Essential and Extreme. The brand replaces the Emotion finish with this new, more advanced finish. Despite 200 € more to pay for buyers, they should be rather winners to spend on this Spring Extreme.

We therefore generally find the same equipment as on the Emotion finish, with the techno pack and its 7-inch screen, navigation, radar and reversing cameras. What changes in this version are mainly aesthetic elements.

The Dacia Spring Extreme adds a new slate blue hue to the 5 other colors available. Several elements of the body are tinted in a copper brown color to stand out: mirrors, roof rails, wheel centers and certain logos. New patterns are also visible on the front doors and door sills.

Inside, we also find this same spirit. Touches of copper brown have been added to the cabin on the seats, the door panels, the air vents and the navigation unit.

The new engine gains 20 hp, but loses 10 km of autonomy

Unlike the Emotion finish, which was based on the same engine as the entry-level Essential finish, this new Extreme version inaugurates a significantly more powerful engine for the Spring.

Going from 45 hp (33 kW) to 65 hp (48 Kw), this new engine will not revolutionize the 0 to 100 km/h that the Spring accomplishes in almost 20 seconds only. On the other hand, this small addition of power can be welcome for overtaking, which, again, was not really the strong point of the model.

This new engine should make it possible to optimize acceleration and pick-up. However, we will have to wait for the tests to be able to confirm this.

However, if the power increases, this development is a little at the expense of the autonomy which drops by 10 km according to the wltp cycle: 220 km against 230 km for the Essential finish.

What do you think of this new finish?

If we don’t stop at the name, which is a bit far-fetched – thanks to the marketing department – novelty isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the Dacia Spring. It will allow this model:

  • To update a little;
  • To better differentiate the Essential finish from this new, more accomplished finish;
  • To have an evolution of its performance.

We could have hoped for a small battery update to gain a few kilowatt hours of useful capacity, but the new 65 hp motor is already a good start. As for the aesthetic modifications, we remain a little more on the reserve. The copper hue is very fashionable at Cupra, but we are waiting to see what it gives more concretely on Dacia models.

Orders for the Dacia Spring Extreme will start on January 17, 2023 with a price of €22,300 before bonuses. Deliveries are expected before the summer. It is perhaps at this level that the surprise is the greatest: in recent months, waiting times for a Dacia Spring sometimes reached 1 year.
