Dancing With The Stars: surprise! Tyra Banks moderates the new season

Tyra Banks is the new host of the US dance show "Dancing with the Stars". She takes over from longtime moderator Tom Bergeron.

She has long proven that Tyra Banks (46) can not only run and pose on the catwalk: from 2004 to 2015, the supermodel moderated 22 seasons of his specially developed show "America's Next Supermodel", as well as "America's Got Talent" and her own Afternoon talk show "The Tyra Banks Show". Now the 46-year-old has landed a new moderation job: From autumn 2020, she will be the new face of the US dance show "Dancing with the Stars" – the American answer to the German "Let's Dance". ABC announced this via Twitter. It takes over from moderator Tom Bergeron (65), who has moderated 28 seasons since the start of the show in 2005.

Tyra Banks: New paint for "Dancing with the Stars"

Banks will not only act as a presenter, but also as a producer of the show. "I was a fan of 'DWTS' right from the start," explains the moderator in a statement. "The fun, mixed with pure emotions, the celebrities who have to come out of their comfort zone, the hot dance performances … That always reminded me of my time on the catwalk." And further: "Tom has prepared a strong stage and I look forward to continuing his legacy and putting on my executive producer and moderator hat."

With Banks as the presenter, not only does the face of the show change, but a "creative refresher" is also planned for the dance show. The start of the new season is scheduled for autumn 2020 – it is not yet known how exactly the program will be implemented in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and which celebrities will participate.

Tom Bergeron says goodbye

Tom Bergeron, who hosted the show for 15 years, and his co-host Erin Andrews (42) announced their departure from the show on Tuesday. In a tweet Bergeron wrote: "I just learned that ABC would continue without me. It was an incredible 15 years and the most unexpected gift of my career. I am grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships." Andrews added, "I will always appreciate my days on the set, even if I wasn't the best at running in high heels."
