Rockfalls and debris flows could occur on the cantonal road between Stalden and Saas-Grund; There is a risk of avalanches between Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell, said road master Martin Sarbach, justifying the road closure. Further rainfall is expected on the night of Easter Sunday, so the security situation cannot be reassessed until Sunday morning.

The Mattertal is also affected by the danger of falling rocks. The Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway (MGB) between Visp and Zermatt, specifically between Kalpetran and St. Niklaus, was closed for several hours as a precaution on Saturday. The connection was ensured with replacement buses. There was no rockfall, the MGB said at the request of Keystone-SDA. The trains are now running again according to the timetable.

Access to Val d’Anniviers open again

Access to the Val d’Anniviers via Vercorin has been possible again since Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. After another landslide that occurred between Vercorin and Mayoux at midday, the road connection was interrupted.

The road from Vercorin via Pinsec to Mayoux and Vissoie can be used again, according to the Val d’Anniviers Facebook page. The road manager is on site to check the security situation.

Last weekend a landslide cut off the road between Siders/Sierre and Vissoie. The section via Vercorin was the last cantonal road that provided access from the Rhone plain to the Val d’Anniviers with the Zinal and St-Luc ski areas.
