This Friday, February 18, France 3 is broadcasting the 300 choirs singing Daniel Balavoine’s most beautiful songs from 9:10 p.m. A beautiful tribute for the singer who died dramatically more than 35 years ago, and who left behind an entire family, including his son Jérémie, now 37 years old.
He would have been 70 in 2022. On January 14, 1986, Daniel Balavoine left us tragically after a helicopter accident in Mali, during the Paris-Dakar, at the age of 33. His son, Jeremiah Balavoine, was then a year and a half old. His mother was pregnant with Joana, the couple’s second child. The little boy grew up far from the media with this difficult absence.
Now 37, Jérémie has followed in his father’s footsteps as he also became a musician. Very discreet, he always wished to avoid the light and the media. This did not prevent him from being heard when certain things displeased him. Thus, in 2013, he had fiercely opposed to the release of the tribute disc Generation Balavoinea cover project by several French singers such as Francis Cabrel, Jean-Louis Aubert and Chimène Badi.
Jérémie Balavoine could not do anything against an album of covers
“I have never approved or endorsed this project, nor promised Play On to release any unreleased tracks, let alone participate in them.”, had lamented Jérémie Balavoine in the press. Despite his opposition to this project, he could not do anything against Jenifer, Zaz, Marina Kaye or even Shy’m, present on the covers album entitled Balavoine(s)published in 2016.
Just like his father and his brother, Joana Balavoine caught the music virus. She also chose to become a singer. “I tried everything not to make music. The most important thing, in the end, is that music is my life”she had thus confided to Paris Match. Joana unfortunately did not have the simplest life. In August 2021, she explained in particular that she had fallen “very young” in drugs. “I inherited, I was completely lost, I had no notion of the truth as of reality. And I dove into cocaine“, she said. It was finally thanks to music that she managed to get out of it, especially when her teacher explained to her that he could no longer give her lessons. . “Today, I have no reason to take drugs. I organized myself to live a healthy life. I play sports, I take care of my garden, my vegetable garden“, ensured Joana.
