Danone maintains its activity in Russia for essential products

BARCELONA (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Danone will maintain local production of essential dairy and infant nutrition products in Russia, according to an internal document viewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The French agribusiness group said it had ceased non-essential imports and exports to the country, notably for its Evian and Alpro brands, as well as all investments, including advertising and consumer promotions.

The group also clarified that it does not derive cash, dividends or profits from its activities in Russia. All profits made locally will be used for humanitarian aid in Ukraine or to support Ukrainian refugees.

The decision to maintain certain operations in Russia was made to support citizens who depend on its products as well as to safeguard its assets in the country, according to the document.
