(Boursier.com) — Danone announced an investment of 50 million euros for the creation of a new line of medical nutrition products at its Opole production site in Poland, thus continuing its development in the medical nutrition market for adults to satisfy growing needs of patients around the world. With this new highly specialized nutrition production line, Danone is strengthening its industrial capabilities to better serve patients who cannot swallow or drink normally and are dependent on feeding tubes.

Danone explains that this expansion comes amid growing demand for this product category as populations continue to age and rates of chronic disease increase. “Many patients will need medical nutrition at some point in their lives, with illnesses such as cancer and stroke leading to malnutrition. And although the role of medical nutrition in the healing process “Recognized, only one in three patients currently benefit from it – demonstrating the growing need for medical nutrition solutions,” the group adds.

Specialized nutrition (which includes medical nutrition) today represents 30% of Danone’s total turnover, with growth of +10% like-for-like in 2022.
