For a few months now, several athletes have taken their courage in both hands to reveal their homosexuality publicly, in order to advance the cause and allow circles that are rather closed on these issues to open up. In football, Australian Josh Cavallo became the first active player to display his homosexuality, followed a few months ago by young Englishman Jake Daniels. Questions which nevertheless often remain taboo, but one of the best tennis players on the planet, Daria Kasatkinadecided to come out in turn and coming from a star of the discipline, it has even more impact.
In an interview shot with a Youtuber named Vitia Kravtchenko, the 12th world player and best Russian player of the moment decided to speak openly about her sexuality. “It’s difficult and there is no point in staying in the closet for a long time (…) You’ll have knots in your brain until you say it. Afterwards, it’s clear that everyone must choose how they want to open up and to what extent”lets go of the 25-year-old sportswoman before summing up her state of mind: “The most important thing is to be good with yourself”.
As a couple, she publishes a photo that leaves little room for doubt
If she recognizes that affirming her homosexuality in Russia makes things very complicated for her, Daria Kasatkina assumes her speaking out and she even goes so far as to make another confidence: she is currently in a relationship with a woman. Coincidence or not, a few hours after this interview, the tenniswoman published on her Instagram account, where she is followed by more than 215,000 subscribers, a beautiful selfie of herself in the company of a young woman with simply a emoji purple heart. A publication that visibly pleased internet users since in less than 24 hours, it has already garnered more than 26,000 likes.
