The American-Singaporean company Razer is currently facing a situation that could prove very problematic. According to reports posted on these forums, the company’s database access information and all of its source code are in the wrong hands. This critical situation has led the company to take the necessary measures to protect the accounts of its users.
The details of the alleged data breach
This data would be held by a single individual calling himself “Nationalist”. If we believe his words, his digital loot would allow him to access the entire back end of Razer. A confirmed hacker represents a real danger for the company if this is the case. It is able to alter the security system to exploit targeted vulnerabilities, steal sensitive data or disclose trade secrets. Suffice it to say, it’s every company’s worst nightmare, especially if they’re dealing with someone who knows their stuff. Fortunately, this is not the case for everyone.

We can see on these a rather precise file tree structure, which would come directly from Razer.com. The hacker is demanding a ransom from the company so that it can recover his data: $100,000 in Monero cryptocurrency. To avoid tracing the transfer of money as much as possible, of course.
Razer’s response
Faced with the urgency of the situation, Razer reacted very quickly. The incident is taken very seriously, since cybersecurity analysts have attested to the veracity of the information held. The accounts that were exposed by the hacker are real and actually belong to users of the site and Razer products.
The investigation is therefore launched. The company had known in 2020 a case which may be similar to this one, since it was a data leak which concerned 100,000 customers. The first move Razer made this week was to reset all members’ accounts and ask them to choose a new password. Active sessions have also been invalidated to prevent any illegal activity on them.
This case is part of a global increase in cybercrime. Although the validity of the entire data breach was not confirmed, Razer responded immediately. A situation of this type can lead the company to serious problems: financial losses or, in the worst case, sabotage of internal operations.
