Data leak at watch brand Seiko: customer information revealed

A vast database containing Seiko customer information has been exposed by a group of hackers.

The famous Japanese watchmaker Seiko confirmed in a press release on October 25 that it had suffered a ransomware cyberattack. This publication comes after the cybercriminal group ALPHV/BlackCat unveiled in September on its darknet site a vast database including thousands of customer data as well as numerous administrative documents.

Last August, this gang claimed responsibility for a cyberattack against Seiko on its extortion site. The hackers claimed to have stolen production plans, employee passport scans, plans to launch new models, etc. Cybercriminals usually reveal the files if the victim refuses to pay the demanded ransom.

All company relationships are affected

Seiko said a total of “60,000 items” were compromised by the attackers. The company states that the following information was disclosed:

  • SWC (Seiko Watch Corporation) customer information, including names, addresses, telephone numbers and/or email addresses.
  • Information of partners involved in business transactions, including names, job title, company telephone number, and/or company email address.
  • Information provided by job applicants.
  • Personnel information.

Seiko says the cybercriminals did not access credit card information. The company alerts its customers and partners to potential fraudulent emails and calls for vigilance.
