David Beckham has used his reach to draw attention to war horrors. A Ukrainian doctor took over his accounts.

The horrible images of the Ukraine war are also omnipresent on social media and leave people stunned. Former soccer star David Beckham (46) used his own reach to tell the story of the head of a Ukrainian maternity hospital in heavily contested Kharkiv. For this purpose, he left his accounts to the doctor Iryna Kondratova for 24 hours. He has 56 million followers on Facebook and 72 million on Instagram.

IIn a video from Sunday, Beckham initially announced his decision and also called for donations: “Please give what you can to support Unicef and people like Iryna.” A little later, the doctor published several short clips in his Instagram stories. In it, she mainly reports on the suffering of her patients. Already on the first day of the war, all pregnant women and mothers were evacuated to the basement to flee from the Russian bombs.

Babies in intensive care could not be evacuated

However, babies struggling for their lives in the intensive care unit could not have been evacuated to the bunkers because they depend on equipment. Kondratova also called on all Beckham followers to donate via Unicef. They are helping Ukrainian children directly and have already received the first portable oxygen devices for the care of newborns in the basement from the aid organization.
