David Beckham recently revealed the strict diet his wife Victoria has been following for 25 years. Now the former professional athlete reveals which favorite dish he has on the table – and that couldn’t be more contrary.

For 25 years, Victoria Beckham, 47, has eaten the same meal day in and day out: grilled fish and steamed vegetables. Much to her husband’s annoyance, because as David Beckham, 46, recently explained, he himself is quite adventurous in the kitchen and a passionate gourmet.

David Beckham reveals his secret favorite dish

“Unfortunately, I’m married to a woman who’s been eating the same thing for 25 years,” he said. He is very emotional when it comes to food and wine. If he eats something “great,” he wants everyone to try it. But Victoria sticks to her diet with no exceptions.

When visiting fine restaurants, the 46-year-old has to feast his way through the menu alone. After the end of his football career, he can now do that without a guilty conscience. However, his personal feel-good food is anything but haute cuisine and should probably turn his loved one’s stomach just by looking at it: “A sandwich from the sandwich grill with baked beans.” To do this, he spreads some butter on the outside of the toast to keep it from sticking, then puts the beans on the bread and grills it all together for four to five minutes. “No cheese,” he notes on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast. As an accompaniment, there are salt and vinegar flavored chips. “I’m more the chip man than the chocolate man.”

No wine before the game

The fact that David Beckham is still in top form with this not very healthy favorite dish is probably in his genes. “I was lucky. Food never really influenced me,” he explains of his time in professional sports. He still tried to eat as healthy as possible.

Diet plans, especially in soccer, have changed completely over the past 20 years, he says. “When I started at Manchester United, the main menu in the canteen was steak, fries and beans. And for dessert, ‘jam roly-poly’ [eine mit Marmelade gefüllte Teigrolle, Anm. d. Red.] or a piece of chocolate cake with vanilla sauce,” the ex-kicker recalls. During his time in Milan, on the other hand, he ate a lot of pasta and olive oil, but was fitter than ever. Only wine was taboo four days before a game.

Today, the 46-year-old likes to be in the kitchen himself. Then the children help. “Brooklyn loves cooking, he’s posting a lot of what he makes and creates these days. But the kids all love it.” During lockdown, the father of four has even planted his own herb garden with daughter Harper, 10, and loves watching it grow and thrive.
