David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan: The New Superman and His Lois Lane

Screenwriter and director James Gunn, 56, and Peter Safran, 57, co-heads of DC Studios since the end of 2022, have found the successor to Henry Cavill, 40, as Superman. David Corenswet, 29, will play Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming blockbuster “Superman: Legacy”. as reported by the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter”.. At his side, Rachel Brosnahan, 32, becomes reporter Lois Lane.

Corenswet and Brosnahan belonged to a squad of six actors who were in the running for the roles. They are said to have prevailed against Nicholas Hoult, 33, and Tom Brittney, 32, as well as Emma Mackey, 27, and Phoebe Dynevor, 28.

Corenswet and Brosnahan are ‘amazing actors’

Ex-Superman Henry Cavill had already confirmed last December that he would no longer take on the role. He first embodied the popular superhero in 2013’s “Man of Steel”. Corenswet, known among other things from the Netflix series “The Politician” and “Hollywood”, is therefore only the fourth actor to embody Superman on the big screen after Christopher Reeve (1952-2004), Brandon Routh, 43, and Cavill. Brosnahan is known for the series “House of Cards” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”. For the latter, she was awarded an Emmy and two Golden Globes, among others.

Gunn called the report correct on Twitter. Corenswet and Brosnahan are “not only incredible actors but also wonderful people,” wrote the 56-year-old, who will direct Superman: Legacy. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
