On the eve of the return to politics, the Republicans are getting active. This Sunday, party officials will be in the Alpes-Maritimes and David Lisnard has taken the lead. He will hold a speech in Cannes this Saturday evening in front of his faithful. A way to stand out? The mayor of Cannes intends to weigh in on the public debate in the future.
David Lisnard is, with Laurent Wauquiez and Xavier Bertrand, the one presented as one of the three presidential candidates on the right. While Les Républicains seek to embody an alternative to the executive in place, it could come from Cannes. David Lisnard has been the mayor since 2014. He is developing his New Energy movement there, which he has rolled out in 70 departments. His credo: an assumed liberalism in economic matters, authority on the sovereign level and a strong plea for decentralization.
Enough notoriety?
If he still suffers from a lack of notoriety among the French, his voice is listened to on the right and his career followed closely by his supporters as by those who monitor his ambition. David Lisnard will participate well in the return of the Republicans this Saturday in the stronghold of Éric Ciotti, but he cultivates a certain independence vis-à-vis the party, in particular because of his title of president of the Association of mayors of France.
An autonomy which deprives him of weighty support at LR, but which could also prove to be an asset when the right seeks to renew its incarnation.
