The DC team has struggled to build its shared universe on the big screen, but that era may be over. Not long ago, james gunn (film director Guardians of the Galaxy or of The Suicide Squad) and Peter Safran (producer of many DC films) were named to lead of the new DCU, in other words the shared DC universe Marvel Cinematic Universe way. In addition to the many changes that this will involve in the creation of new films, this will also have repercussions for future DC video games.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced to take the reins of this shared universe, the duo made it clear that it would extend through films, series, animation or even video games. We nevertheless had a doubt about this last area, which was swept away by James Gunn yesterday, on Twitter. When asked if the DCU will be connected to games, the director answers bluntly: yes, it will.
For all games? Not necessarilysince we already know that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is not, and that it is far too late to change plans. We can think that it is the same for the game wonder woman by Monolith, which also shouldn’t be based on Gal Gadot’s incarnation.
But this confirms that we could have, in the distant future, some games that would be directly related to the DCU films. A very different strategy from that of Marvel, which is nevertheless king in the field of the shared universe. Marvel Games recently reaffirmed that there are no plans to connect the games to the movies, or even to connect the games to each other, in order to give the studios carte blanche over which characters and stories to use.
So let’s hope that this decision by James Gunn and Peter Safran does not come to curb the creativity of future DC games, and that some of them can deviate from the mold of this shared universe to offer us more free proposals. After all, James Gunn has claimed that some animated films will be linked to the DCU, and others will not. We can therefore think that it will be the same for the games.
