DC Universe Online: PS5 and Xbox Series X and S versions reconfirmed with a new release period

After more than 12 years of existence, the tireless DC Universe Online is still going strong, with regular expansions and an ever-present community on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. A PS5 port was supposed to take place at the end of 2021, but ended up taking much longer than expected.

Daybreak Game Company just confirmed that the version next gen of free-to-play is scheduled for the holiday season, so somewhere between autumn and next winter. And good news, in addition to the native PS5 edition, an Xbox Series X|S version is also planned for the same period.

The developers took the opportunity to work on optimization and quality of life improvements, which will impact all players in the coming months. The experience will still be playable in cross play and can both be started and continued on these new platforms, which already run the PS4 and Xbox One versions without worry via backward compatibility.

In addition to the performance gains seen by playing natively on the latest and greatest hardware, the team is also working on gameplay and quality of life improvements. This initiative is a long-term undertaking that is already underway. You’ll see some of these improvements rolling out over the next few months ahead of release on new consoles, some of them at launch, and more to follow over the next year. Stay tuned for an upcoming update with more information.

Now you might be wondering what it means to play DCUO with your friends, and let us assure you right away that whether you choose to upgrade to the latest consoles or stay on your current console, you’ll still be playing on the same servers with your same characters and friends, and with all of your purchases and achievements intact. Before that, the community will be able to discover the new expansion Episode 46: Justice League Dark Cursed in October, which will continue the story of theEpisode 34: Justice League Dark featuring a raid, open-world missions, single-player content, classic and elite challenges, special rewards, and cross-screen passes.
