After two terrifying opuses, Dead Space 3 will have somewhat disappointed fans, Visceral Games having made the choice to reduce the horrific dimension of the game in favor of action. The title remains a shooter very correct, but on the writing side, his producer Chuck Beaver has regretseven after all his years.
In an interview given to Captain Bribo, Chuck Beaver admits he would like to rewatch the entire story of Dead Space 3and he has some good ideas in mind:
I would do Dead Space 3 almost completely again. I’d keep the lore it’s based on, I’d keep the lore you discover. I would keep Ellie, but with a different relationship, and I would redo the whole main story. I would discard and rewrite.
I would start from scratch and do this – like we talked about – in Dead Space 2, it’s broken. And now it’s Isaac’s adventure in Dead Space 3 – Broken Isaac. He tried to do this thing, tried to find the truth, it broke him. Now we are in the aftermath of his breakup. Now I would just do it, literally, as a Tyler Durden thing: an unreliable narrator, and you, wondering, “What happened?” » And the player may not even know it, Isaac certainly doesn’t know it, and is it him? Is it really him? And maybe it is… I would keep this question alive for most of 3, until you realize at the end that maybe this is a real thing.
Chuck Beaver also explains thathe would remove the love triangle between Isaac, Ellie And Robert Nortonjust like the gameplay cooperative, which he considers “not necessary”. Moreover, the cooperation increased the developer’s budget and caused technical problems, hence the desire of its producer to delete it if it had to be done again.
Unfortunately, Chuck Beaver will probably never have the opportunity to revisit Dead Space 3 in his way. However, Dead Space, the first of its name, was entitled to a recent remakewith only technical improvements without touching the scenario, and EA Games plans to do the same with the other two opuses.
