Is it about love, or just about money: For Valentine’s Day, Donald Trump is sending his supporters a romantic message to his wife. The links in the circular email lead to a donation page. Meanwhile, Trump’s competitor is using Valentine’s Day to lash out against the ex-president.

According to media reports, Donald Trump wrote a love message to his wife Melania in the form of a donation email for Valentine’s Day. With the subject: “Dear Melania, I LOVE YOU!” The former president’s campaign team sent a circular email to supporters on Wednesday, as reported by the US magazine “Newsweek”, among others.

“THIS IS A VALENTINE’S DAY LETTER FROM DONALD J. TRUMP: Dear Melania, I LOVE YOU! Even after every indictment, arrest and witch hunt, you have never left my side,” the email says. “You have always supported me, despite everything. I would not be the man I am today without your guidance, your kindness and your warmth. You will always mean the world to me, Melania! With love from your husband, Donald J. Trump.”

According to Newsweek, links in the email led to a homepage where visitors could write their own Valentine’s Day message to Melania and donate amounts between $20.24 and $3,300 to Trump’s re-election campaign. The former US president wants to challenge incumbent Joe Biden in the November elections. In polls, the 77-year-old is well ahead of his competitor Nikki Haley in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

This in turn sent a message peppered with criticism to Trump on Valentine’s Day. “Roses are red, violets are blue, I love dictators and they love me too! Happy Valentine’s Day from Donald Trump to dictators everywhere!” Haley’s campaign mocked in an emailed statement which quotes the newspaper “The Hill”. Over the years, Trump has expressed his love for the “world’s most brutal dictators” and praised their strength and leadership qualities, it said. The statement is garnished with a series of statements from Trump.
