Death by stray bullet in Dijon: six people presented before a judge

Six people were presented before a judge with a view to their possible indictment on Monday in Dijon in the investigation into the bursts targeting a deal point which caused the death at the end of November of a father living just above, a indicated the floor. The six people, two of whom were intercepted on Thursday at the Franco-Spanish border, “generally contested any participation in the events”, added the public prosecutor in Dijon Olivier Caracotch, in a press release.

Judicial investigation opened for “organized gang murder” and “criminal association”

The accused, including a minor, were held in police custody for up to “nearly 96 hours for the longest” as part of a judicial investigation opened in particular for “organized gang murder” and “association of criminals”, according to the prosecutor.

Around sixty shell casings found on site

On the night of Saturday November 25 to Sunday November 26, several bursts of weapons of war caliber were fired at a deal point in a building in the sensitive Stalingrad district, in the east of Dijon. A 55-year-old father, who was sleeping in his apartment located just above the deal point, was killed in his bed, probably by a stray bullet that ricocheted. The man was in his home with his wife and two children, all refugees from Kosovo who arrived in France 14 years ago. Around sixty shell casings were found on site.

The car of the suspected shooters was found shortly after, making it possible to make the link with another vehicle which was intercepted at the border with Spain, with its two occupants. The owner of this car, a Volkswagen Polo, was also taken into custody, as was one of its users, according to the prosecutor. This vehicle allowed the location of an apartment where a fifth person was arrested and more than 20,000 euros in cash were seized.

Finally, a sixth police custody was carried out: that of a minor who admitted to having stolen the first vehicle, the one found after the events.
