And to best transcribe the incredible reign of the monarch, Netflix has secured the services of different actresses to embody Elizabeth II. And her performance in the series has been rewarded since the actress won a Golden Globe in 2017 and an Emmy Award in 2018.
It was then Olivia Colman who took over in seasons 3 and 4. Her performance as Elizabeth II was also acclaimed as she received the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama series in 2020, then the Emmy Award in the same category in 2021. A few years ago, Olivia Colman had even had the honor of meeting the monarch at an event related to the seventh art, organized at Windsor Castle.

That of theImelda Staunton, notably known for having played Dolores Umbridge, the cruel character of the Harry Potter saga. “There is pressure from all sides. I’m taking over from two extraordinary actresses and I’m going to embody an extraordinary human being who is the queen. Everyone knows what she looks like, how she expresses herself. Of course I will try to be as much like him as possible, but I also have to serve up a story.”, said the 66-year-old actress on ITV on July 26.
