The outcome of this story had a major impact on the French. Leslie Hoorelbeke and Kévin Trompat, two young people aged 22 and 20, disappeared on the night of November 25 to 26, 2022 after an evening spent with a friend in Prahecq, a town located in the Deux-Sèvres department. After several months of investigation and research, the bodies of the two young people were finally found in Charente-Maritime in March 2023in a field for him, in a wooded area for her.
The investigation led to the arrest five suspects, all involved to greater or lesser degreesin the murder of the couple. This Thursday, January 4, the daily The Parisian revealed that one of these five suspectsStevan Mathieu – nicknamed “the K” – had been released under judicial supervision. If he remains indicted for concealment of corpses and alteration of a crime scene, Stevan Mathieu saw a dismissal of charges of kidnapping and sequestration decided by the investigating judge. He has been imprisoned since mid-April 2023 in the Le Mans remand center.
A careful investigation which revealed the role played by Stevan Mathieu
In this case, the suspects explained that they had killed Kevin with a hammer and a machete and Leslie with daggers and shovels. According to the explanations given by Tom Trouillet, one of the five suspects, Stevan Mathieu would have been called in for reinforcement – in particular because he had stayed twice in Ukraine, where he is supposed to have fought against the Russians in early 2022, the daily indicated – from the morning of November 26 and would have arrived at the crime scene that day. He would therefore not be the cause of the couple’s death. But on November 26, 2022, he allegedly helped the other suspects bury the bodies and clean up the crime scene. The young man allegedly intervened a second time, a little less than a month later, on December 19. This time, he allegedly helped them move Leslie’s body. At ParisianPatrick and Émilie, Leslie Hoorelbeke’s father and stepmother, said they were “outraged and in total incomprehension” facing the release of Stevan Mathieu. A reconstruction of the facts should take place during the spring in the presence of the five suspects, Tom Trouillet, Nathan Badji, Enzo Challat, Mickaël Zadi and Stevan Mathieu, who currently benefit from the presumption of innocence while awaiting their trial.
