It was a terrible tragedy that took place on Tuesday June 27, 2023. Nahel was driving a car when he was stopped by police officers in Nanterre. The traffic stop escalated and the 17-year-old was shot and killed. A report devoted to this affair was broadcast on the show Seven to EightSunday October 22, 2023. In front of the cameras of TF1, it was Mounia who spoke. Nahel’s mother first showed the playground where her son used to go. On the wall is a drawing of the 17-year-old, made by his friends. In the middle of Nahel’s face, people wrote: “he was a thug, you little bastard”. Words which immediately made Mounia react. “I saw what they wrote… this is what I get”she said, then revealing the content of the “Threatening letters. “Fat bitch, dirty Arab, one Arab less, we will go and piss on his grave, your turn”. This is what they sent me.” However, Mounia assures that she does not take into account the numerous threats to which she is subject, which are minimal compared to her pain. “I had worse, the death of my son. It’s the worst thing“she said.
Death of Nahel: the moving confidences of his friends
In this report, several close friends of Nahel wanted to speak to pay tribute to him. First of all, there is Ali, whom the teenager nicknamed “Uncle”. The latter explains that he saw his friend for the last time only a few hours before the tragedy. With another young man, whose identity has not been revealed, unpublished images of Nahel are shown. We can see him several years ago but also more recently, at the swimming pool, surrounded by his friends. “He was my little brother“Ali first said before continuing: “He was everyone’s little brother.”. According to “Uncle”, the teenager was always ready to help them. “He never said no, always yes”, he continued. Concerning his daily life, Nahel had a “big passion for motorbikes. He loved it too much”, specifies the young man. The voiceover also indicates that Mounia’s son aimed to open a garage and get his license as soon as he came of age. A dream he will never be able to realize. “It was the best”, Ali concluded. A moving testimony.
