Debate on Ukraine: “Abstention is indifference, it is even being pro-Putin”, judge Jérôme Guedj

The National Assembly decides on Tuesday on the aid strategy for Ukraine during a debate and a symbolic vote, which should serve as a ground for clashes between Macronists, RN and LFI in the middle of the European campaign. On the socialists’ side, the voting intentions are clear: “abstention is indifference, it is even being pro-Putin”, judges Jérôme Guedj for La Grande interview Europe 1-CNews. “This indifference is culpable because it masks complacency with Vladimir Putin’s regime,” he continues.

Regarding the potential abstention of left-wing parties like France Insoumise or the Communists, the PS deputy expressed his disagreement: “I do not agree with them because in such paroxysmal moments, a vote, certainly symbolic , is also an affirmation of principle. And in these moments, we cannot be in ambiguity.”

“Measuring the degree of resistance of Europeans”

Jérôme Guedj calls for clarity in this vote: “I am not in favor of providing security guarantees to Vladimir Putin. He is the aggressor and Ukraine is the attacked, and any formulation which would maintain ambiguity even, who would say that we have to sit around the table to “negotiate peace”, but what does negotiating peace mean? Does it mean organizing a division of the country?” -he indignant.

“We cannot accept a questioning of borders in Europe, this would directly threaten us,” he continued. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine constitutes a “test” carried out by Vladimir Putin “to measure the degree of resistance of Europeans”, believes the MP.
