In line with the X1 Omni and T20 Omni, the X2 Omni is a very complete robot vacuum cleaner. However, it is above all its silhouette that makes people talk. The robot abandons the traditional round shape for a square frame. The Chinese manufacturer explains that the challenge was not the easiest, because the circular shape helps the robots to circulate better in the room, their turning radius being greater. But this choice was made to the detriment of the surface covered by the vacuum cleaner.
Sporting a redesigned silhouette, the X2 Omni would be able to better reach corners, often overlooked by robots. Indeed, the side brush installed in the upper right corner of the device protrudes from the vacuum cleaner and thus collects dust more easily. The central brush takes up more space than on a circular structure and takes the opportunity to extend up to 20 cm.
Another major change: the absence of a laser rangefinder on the cover of the Ecovacs. But beware, this does not mean that the robot is devoid of it. If the turret has disappeared, Lidar technology is indeed present in the X2 Omni: the sensor is now housed in the upper left corner of the robot. The device gains 2 to 3 cm in height and can thus more easily vacuum under furniture, without fear of getting stuck. Ultimately, the X2 Omni comes in at 9.5cm.
If Ecovacs seems certain of its bet, we are slightly more nuanced. Competitors, such as Xiaomi or Roborock, have managed to get their robot vacuum cleaners below the 10 cm mark while keeping the laser rangefinder on top of the device.
Either. By making this choice, the X2 Omni loses omniscience. While a Lidar sensor located on the cover scans the robot’s environment at 360°, this viewing angle is reduced to 210° when it is installed in the upper left corner. On the other hand, according to the statements of the manufacturer, this sensor would be able to detect small objects 24 times better than a conventional sensor.
To complete the X2 Omni’s navigation and obstacle recognition system, Ecovacs equips it with a front camera, lasers and artificial intelligence; all were already present in the X1 Omni that we tested. The AI would be improved and would allow the robot to better locate itself in a moving environment, in the presence of pets for example.
Always in the interest of improvement, Ecovacs announces that the suction power has increased to 8000 Pa, against 5000 Pa for the X1 Omni. In addition, the rotating mops can now be raised by 15 mm, in order to avoid carpets or a thick carpet. Indeed, the robot is able to ensure the suction and washing function, the maintenance being ensured by its very complete base. And just like the T20 Omni’s docking station, that of the latest Ecovacs uses water heated to 55°C to wash the floor.
If the Chinese manufacturer announces the novelties carried by the X2 Omni, no price or release date have been communicated for the moment. We will surely have to wait for the IFA to find out more.
