26 million titles lost
The Deezer platform has undergone a real spring cleaning. The music streaming specialist has just announced that it has removed 13% of the titles that had previously been offered on its interface. A change of magnitude.
Because no less than 26 million titles have been withdrawn in recent months. But even if you’re a Deezer subscriber, chances are you haven’t noticed these operations.
A campaign against “white noise” and AI productions
Because Deezer has in fact hunted down fake albums and other “white noise”, ambiances, which are posted online by users, and which tend to have an impact on the income of music creators.
The other major category of titles that have been evacuated is that of music generated by artificial intelligence. In this, Deezer follows its competitor Spotify, which had already decided in May 2023 to trash tens of thousands of titles that we owed to AI.
This question is becoming more and more burning in the music sector, where artists fear seeing their work threatened by technology. More than 200 big names signed a petition at the beginning of April to ask all players in the musical world, including streaming platforms, to no longer participate in the misappropriation of their copyright by productions from AI.
