Defeat against SLO – The last place spoils Servette’s jump to the leader’s throne – Sport

  • Servette surprisingly lost 2-1 at home against Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy in the 30th round of the Super League.
  • The Genevans miss out on a lot of opportunities and once again miss out on becoming leaders of the top Swiss league for the first time in 21 years.
  • In the other game on Wednesday evening, FCZ and Winterthur drew 0-0.

Almost 80 minutes had been played at the Stade de Genève when Jérémy Guillemenot caught SLO keeper Jérémy Vachoux at the near post. Geneva’s compensation was well deserved, without question. The home team had previously missed chances in a multipack. A goal was also disallowed twice because of offside. A player from Geneva was offside a total of 12 times on Wednesday evening.

Guillemenot’s goal (78th) was also briefly checked by the VAR, but the 1-1 count counted. However, the joy only lasted for a short time. Vitale Damascan (84th) crowned a quick counterattack by the Lausanne guests shortly afterwards by taking the lead again. The Moldovan striker gave Joël Mall no chance with his shot into the far corner.

Again, not leader

For Servette it wasn’t just the first home defeat in 11 games. After the chance on Easter Saturday, the Geneva team missed out on reaching the top of the Super League table for the second time in just a few days. If one point had been enough against Winterthur at the weekend, 3 points would have been needed on Wednesday to at least temporarily overtake YB.

Coach René Weiler’s team has to look after itself. The Genevans had plenty of chances, but missed them one after the other. They often found themselves in their own way – or offside. In stoppage time, with the supposed 2-2, a third Geneva goal was disallowed because of an offside position.

Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy acted much more efficiently than the hosts. Just as surprising as the winning goal was the opening goal from the bottom of the table. Alban Ajdini was launched into the depths with a beautiful pass by Ismaël Gharbi and hammered the ball unstoppably under the crossbar.

This is how it continues

With a win on Thursday against GC, YB can extend its lead in the table to 4 points. Next weekend Servette plays at home again and welcomes FC Zurich. Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy meets FC Basel at home.
