“Definitely not the way”: Tuchel remains Bayern coach

“Definitely not the way”
Tuchel remains Bayern coach

The embarrassment in Heidenheim hurts the Bayern bosses. It also bodes ill before the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League at Arsenal. And yet: Nothing should change in the coaching bench for the time being – and Thomas Tuchel should stay.

Despite the embarrassment of FC Bayern Munich against newly promoted 1. FC Heidenheim, Thomas Tuchel should also sit on the bench in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League at Arsenal FC. “No, I didn’t have that idea,” said Bayern’s sports director Max Eberl after the embarrassing 3-2 defeat on Sky in the evening when asked about a possible short-term coach change: “That’s definitely not the way. Bayern have already fired the coach, but they’re still standing where you are. It’s not always just a coaching problem.”

However, Eberl did not want to confirm that this job guarantee also applies until the end of the season. “We have to make sure we reach the Champions League,” said the 50-year-old: “But it is completely clear to me that he will be on the bench next Tuesday and will be on the bench against Cologne on Saturday.” However, Tuchel has to watch the game against Cologne from the stands because he received his fourth yellow card for complaining in Heidenheim and is therefore banned from the next league game.

Sports director Christoph Freund also supported Tuchel immediately after the new setback. “Thomas is trying to get a lot of energy in,” said the Austrian and appealed to the players: “Everyone really has to nibble on themselves now.”

Immediately after the defeat, Tuchel appeared relatively at a loss despite a 2-0 half-time lead – also with a view to the premier class clash on Tuesday in London. The coach admitted that it was “difficult to answer” how he wanted to give a positive impulse: “We’re already putting it in. But we’ll put it in tomorrow or the day after, we still have two days.”
