Delicate operation – Huge arms depot in Lower Carinthia blown up

A huge arms depot was already exposed in Ruden near Völkermarkt on Saturday in the course of a medical emergency. Three people were arrested. There were also rumors of a planned attack.

In the remote and desolate house in Kleindiex near Ruden, a 29-year-old Austrian is said to have lived with two Britons aged 67 and 69. All three men were arrested on the spot. In the course of a house search ordered by the public prosecutor’s office, a large number of registered and unregistered weapons were seized, as well as “undefined substances”. The arms depot had already been blown up on Saturday. Emergency services had to go to the address because of a medical emergency. They then sounded the alarm. The “undefined substances” are said to be explosives. For this reason, an official with knowledge of explosives and the state chemist were called in to search the property. The building was temporarily closed by the authorities. “The mission is very delicate. The investigation is proceeding swiftly. The interrogation of those arrested is still ongoing. There is currently no danger to the population,” said police spokesman Rainer Dionisio in an interview with “Krone”. So far, 60 to 70 firearms of all kinds – from hunting rifles to fully automatic weapons – have been sighted, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition. There is currently no evidence that the weapons were hoarded for criminal acts. Camp of conspiracy theorists? The constellation of a 29-year-old Austrian and at least two older Brits gives rise to speculation as to why they lived together in the house. The young man is said to have been particularly interested in conspiracy theories on social media. In combination with the weapons and substances found, the picture emerges that the arrested men were preparing for a major event here – what exactly will probably only be revealed by further investigations. Mayor is concerned “I don’t know anything concrete yet. heard about it We hope for talks with the responsible authorities, which are currently still in large-scale operations,” says Mayor Rudolf Skorjanz. The large-scale operation caused a stir in the small town. The remote property is not known, so he hopes for a quick clarification.
