Delonghi opens its catalog of automatic coffee makers with its Magnifica series made up of around ten models. The mid-range segment is occupied by the Dinamica series, which is also available in several references. Inevitably, between the two series, there are a whole host of specificities that justify the move upmarket, but three fundamentals remain on all of the manufacturer’s coffee makers:
- The steel grinder with anti-heating treatment
- The thermoblock to control and regulate the extraction temperature
- The infuser which is used to evenly moisten the grind
The move upmarket is partly justified by the LCD screen which allows you to display in full the information related to the preparation of a coffee or the maintenance of the device, where the Magnifica series uses luminous icons. . The control panel is also easier to decipher on the mid-range coffee maker than on the Magnifica. A small passage by the manual upstream of the catch in hand makes it possible to better apprehend the machine.
The Dinamica display undeniably offers more comfort and makes it easier to handle. Recipe customization is more accessible with Dinamica, which also allows personalized recipes to be saved by user profile. Note that if these two coffee makers do not offer milk drinks, they do however have a steam nozzle to froth the milk.
The maintenance of these two machines does not pose any problem: they rinse the nozzles automatically on switching on and off, they provide access to the extractor for thorough cleaning and each element (marc container, drip tray ) can go in the dishwasher without worry. All Delonghi machines are fast and these two models are no exception.
The Magnifica is however a little faster (by 5 s) to run the first coffee in the morning. Thus, the first espresso is ready in 1 min 20 s with the entry-level model, while the Dinamica takes 1 min 25 s for this same preparation – this takes into account the activation of the device, the preheating, nozzle rinsing, bean grinding and coffee dispensing. The Magnifica is also a little quieter than its rival of the day, but the difference is marginal.

These two coffee makers with grinder are among the best value for money in their segment, but one is sold around 230 € more than the second. Inevitably, we are entitled to wonder if the difference in cost is worth… the shot. If this is a first purchase to taste the joys of coffee beans, the Delonghi Magnifica S is an excellent choice at a lower cost. It is very often offered in good plan and it is not uncommon to see its price drop to 299 €.
More rudimentary and less well finished than the Dinamica, it nevertheless offers the necessary functionalities to obtain an espresso made according to the rules of the art. It also has the advantage of being compact, fast and silent. For those who are already familiar with automatic coffee makers and who want to have fun by customizing the recipes (amount of water, temperature, aroma intensity, etc.), the Dinamica, better finished, provides a better overall performance. . Ditto, it is not uncommon to see its price fall below 500 €. At the moment, the reference FEB 3535.SB Black (without Doppio+ recipe) is at 487 €. Also, do not rush to any price and watch out!
