The Unia union called for the demonstrations. As she announced, workers from care, sales and logistics joined the demonstrators from the construction industry.
All of you would have worked tirelessly on the front lines during the pandemic. Although the population applauded for them, according to Unia, nothing changed in terms of working conditions.
The corona crisis has shown how much society depends on the hundreds of thousands of poorly paid employees in service professions. Stress, chronic staff shortages, a lack of collective bargaining agreements, low wages and overwork were, however, part of everyday life in these industries. And the stress on construction is also increasing to an unprecedented extent.
Unia criticizes the rip-off mentality
A paradigm shift is needed for more social justice, demanded Unia. The rip-off mentality threatens to deepen the social rifts in the country. A fundamental change in policy is needed.
Online retail, the pharmaceutical industry and logistics would have benefited from the crisis. The construction industry is also in full swing. Swiss companies paid out 42 billion francs to their shareholders last year. So there was money for better wages, said the union.
It requires at least 13 monthly wages of 4200 francs, especially in the essential women’s professions, more respect for the work of women, collective labor contracts, secure jobs and clean and well-organized construction sites. In addition, the union speaks out against a higher retirement age for women. (SDA)
