A 35-year-old Danish woman was sentenced Friday, November 18 to three years in prison for entering a conflict zone in Syria and encouraging the activities of the jihadist organization Islamic State (IS), announced Danish justice.
Prosecuted for “promotion of terrorist activities” and “entry and residence in a conflict zone“, the young woman, who admitted the facts, was condemned for”having facilitated the activities of ISIS, in particular by acting as a housewife and wife of a person active in the terrorist organization“, said the prosecution in a press release. During the trial, the prosecutor had indicated that housewives were an essential part of IS.

The mother of five is also guilty of “having stayed without authorization in (…) the province of Raqqa and in the province of Deir Ezzor in Syria“, then conflict zones, the statement said.

In October 2021, Denmark brought out of the Roj camp (north-eastern Syria), under Kurdish control, three women and 14 children in a joint operation with Germany.
The three women were arrested when they arrived in Denmark and have been in detention ever since. The trial which has just ended is the first of three.
