This Friday, December 29, what is commonly called “the Depardieu affair” experienced a new development, which this time took the form of a “counter-tribune”. Signed by 600 artists, including the actress Corinne Masiero, the singers Angèle and Pomme and the comedian Waly Dia, and published on the platform Brains not availableshe intends to oppose the idea which would like that “when we attack Depardieu, it would be art that we attack”.

“Let’s break the law of silence”

Calling to break “the law of silence”put “the light on the truth” and choose “the end of gray areas”, the signatories claim their opposition to the column published in Le Figaro on December 25 and signed by 55 celebrities from the world of culture, some of whom have since decided to withdraw their signature (Nadine Trintignant, who nevertheless reaffirms her support for Depardieu) or declared not not feel comfortable with the personality and ideas of Yannis Ezziadi, the controversial author behind the call for Depardieu. This is particularly the case of Carole Bouquet.

The “counter-tribune” recalls the facts of which Gérard Depardieu is accused: “In addition to the abject remarks discovered in Complément d’Enquête, which constantly sexualize women, including a 12-year-old girl, let us remember that Depardieu is targeted – to date – by 3 complaints for rape and sexual assault. Médiapart has also published 13 testimonies from women accusing Depardieu of sexual violence”.

“Let justice do its job. But we must also do ours”

She also discusses the involvement of President Emmanuel Macron in the matter: “This platform and the defense of Macron are so many spits in the face of the victims of Gérard Depardieu but also of all the victims of sexist and sexual violence. It is the sinister and perfect illustration of the world before which refuses that things change”. And underlines the meaning of the signatories’ approach: “Let justice do its job. But we must also do ours. That of supporting the victims and not leaving aggressors, rapists, oppressors alone. That they can no longer think that they can act with complete peace of mind. impunity, and sometimes even being rewarded and glorified”.

Afterwards “Further investigation”

As the “counter-tribune” reminds us, Gérard Depardieu is therefore the subject of 3 complaints for rape and sexual assault. The actor must also face the consequences of the broadcast of the magazine “Complément d’investigation” on France 2 on Thursday December 7, 2023. The actor reveals his darkest side, multiplying obscene remarks and provocations to the point of sexualizing a child 12-year-old who was riding horses before his eyes.

On the artistic side, Depardieu’s career is at a standstill. He who at the height of his career could produce up to 10 films per year (in 2000, his most successful year) is no longer associated with the slightest project. His latest film, Umami, was released on our screens on May 17, 2023, and attracted just over 43,000 spectators.
