Deployment in Styria – woman seriously injured in an accident on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, the Styrian fire departments in Mooskirchen and Lieboch were called to a traffic accident involving a seriously injured woman. Just a few minutes after the alarm, the rescuers arrived – of course also at Christmas.

A driver who was driving her car on the A2 in the direction of Graz crashed into a concrete barrier shortly after the Mooskirchen motorway entrance. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to overturn and slide several 100 meters along the roof of the concrete barrier. Comrades only a short time after the alarm Press officer Christian Gröblbauer describes the details of the operation: “Since the members of the fire department were at home celebrating family Christmas celebrations, many comrades were in the armory very quickly and were able to move to the scene within a few minutes of the alarm. Since there was a suspicion of fire, the emergency services equipped themselves with heavy respiratory protection when they arrived. When they arrived at the scene, the driver of the vehicle was able to be freed from the vehicle with the help of passers-by. The fire paramedics from the Mooskirchen fire department immediately provided first aid to the injured person. At the same time, the accident site was secured and fire and privacy protection was set up.Roadway was only closed for a short time. The accident vehicle was parked in a safe area and the roadway was cleaned before the motorway was reopened to traffic. For the duration of the operation, the road was only closed for a short time and then became a single lane. The traffic jam stretched back for miles. A special sign of gratitude “A vehicle driver standing in a traffic jam spontaneously opened the window and presented one of our comrades with a generous donation with the words ‘Thank you for your work on Christmas Eve’,” says Gröblbauer, pleased about this warm, Christmas gesture.
