Coronavirus: ‘Herculean effort’ to ensure PPE for front line

The UK has made a “Herculean effort” to ensure daily deliveries of personal protective equipment to frontline workers, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.

He said the “plan to protect the people who protect us” included creating a new domestic manufacturing industry.

England’s deputy chief medical officer, Jonathan Van-Tam, said the lockdown is “beginning to pay off” but the UK was still in a “dangerous situation”.

The UK recorded another 980 deaths.
