Ranked number one on Netflix, the series “Devil In Ohio” is making a lot of noise. And for good reason, its end is enough to leave the spectators speechless. The designer, Daria Polatin, provides explanations.

One of Netflix’s latest releases is a hit on the platform. Worn by Emily Deschanel, the star of bonesseries Devil’s In Ohio follows the story of a psychiatrist, Suzanne, who welcomes Mae (Madeleine Arthur), a young teenager who has escaped from a cult, into her home. The mother will take care of the victim, even if it means endangering her loved ones.
Between family drama and harrowing thriller, Devil In Ohio seduces thanks to its addictive intrigues, its breathless rhythm and especially its final surprise. At the end of the eighth episode, a revelation reshuffles the cards. Mae is not the victim she claims to be. The whole trajectory of the character turns out to be a pure manipulation to find refuge within a family and monopolize Suzanne, presented as an ideal mother.
The creator of Devil In OhioDaria Polatin, is none other than the author of the eponymous novel. In an interview granted to TV Insider, it provides some details on the motivations of Mae. Something to enlighten viewers.

For the showrunner, Mae “is a survivor with great life force”. “She is looking for protection, a home and she finds that in the person of Suzanne. Suzanne has a trauma related to her past. She protects Mae as she would have liked to be protected at the same age. Mae tries to find a place for herself. She thinks she is doing well, even if from an outside point of view, many will not agree.”
Can Suzanne’s family be reunited again? For Daria Polatin, Mae will first have to be completely out of their lives. As for the sect, it still exists. She still poses a threat to Suzanne, but the designer explains: “They can very well leave her in peace, but they can also make her live in fear. They are very manipulative. Mae will never feel safe.”
Daria Polatin explains that all these questions left unanswered are a deliberate choice on her part. She wants viewers to interact with each other and pick up the thread of the story to try to understand what happens next. The recipe seems to work.
