On TV, heroes never really die. Against all odds, a Dexter prequel series about the Trinity killer has just been ordered by Showtime. The channel also made two other major announcements regarding the Dexter universe, as reported Deadline.
Not much has been revealed about the Trinity Killer project, except that it focuses on the “birth” of the notorious serial killer played by John Lithgow in the original series. The monumental Lithgow has already mentioned that the character of Trinity is the one he is most often asked about. Years later, fans continue to be traumatized by the show’s best villain.
Two other projects
The other two announced projects are Dexter: Origins and the next chapter of Dexter: New Blood which was originally planned to be a mini-series.
Dexter: Origins
The Origins series will focus on young Dexter Morgan (originally played by Michael C. Hall) as he turns into a serial killer. Set in Miami, the series will begin as Dexter graduates from college to join the city’s police department, where he encounters youthful versions of many of the characters we got to know from the original series.
The series will also include stories of actual serial killers from the era. As for Dexter’s family, they will also be represented, including Harry (originally played in flashbacks by James Remar) and a teenage and fearsome Deborah (originally played by Jennifer Carpenter).
Dexter: New Blood
On the side of New Blood, the adventure continues after breaking audience records with season 1. A new season will explore the themes and scenarios seen in the original series but through a new prism. Although it’s not confirmed, but if we follow the logic of the Season 1 finale, it would center around Dexter’s son, Harrison (Jack Alcott).
New Blood season 1 reunited with Dexter Morgan years after he ran away and changed his lifestyle. There he finds his son whom he has not seen since the end of the Dexter series. Harrison has grown up and is looking for his father, but not only. He is also on a quest for a special bond and understanding similar to the one Harry gave Dexter.
The Trinity Killer played an important role in New Blood for Harrison, as he is the one who murdered his mother Rita Bennett (Julie Benz) and condemned him to a fate similar to that of his father: he was born in blood. .
While promoting Season 1, Michael C. Hall claimed that this was his final incarnation of Dexter Morgan. Showtime also revealed that other characters from the franchise are being considered for spin-off projects, but none have been named outside of Trinity.
