Diablo IV: everything that will be reset for season 1

As a game-service, Diablo IV will feature seasonal content. Some progress items will be reset, some will not.

Updates, seasons, expansions, one-time events: Diablo IVwhich has been a hit since its release on June 6, 2023, is designed to last for years For Blizzard, the idea is not to let the game live, but to continually evolve its content to motivate players to stay in Sanctuary, offering them various activities.

The first season, expected for the month of July, will be the first big revolution for fans of Diablo IV. It will allow you to discover new things, provided you start a new character and, by extension, put aside your heroine or your main hero (don’t worry, he or she will not disappear). This also involves resetting certain progression elements related to the different regions of the game.

During a live broadcast on June 16, Blizzard made an update on the subject, which scares some fans of Diablo IV. Originally, it was planned to erase everything. But the developers have changed their philosophy, which could still evolve in the future depending on feedback. “ We continue to evaluate what should be reset and what should not be reset “says Rod Fergusson, in charge of Diablo.

What will be reset at the start of Diablo IV Season 1?

The map

Imagine, you’ve spent hours upon hours revealing the entire map of Diablo IV, composed of five regions. And, a few weeks later, Blizzard Entertainment tells you to start all over again. It will not happen. “ The parts of the map you revealed in the Eternal Realm (where your already created characters are) will be visible in the season — you won’t have to reveal them again “, reveals Rod Fergusson. Great news.

The Altars of Lilith

When you walk around Sanctuary, you can come across Altars of Lilith, glowing statues that give a bonus when you activate them. There are 160 in the game and, again, it would be tedious to find them all at the start of each season (even if there is a complete map indicating the locations). As with the map, there will be no resetting of Altars of Lilith.

Teleport Portals

You will see teleport portals located in towns on your map [si révélée]but you will have to visit them to activate them says Rod Fergusson about portals that allow you to quickly get from one point to another on the map. Their case is specific, with a partial reset: we will always know where they are but we will have to go and reactivate them.

Dungeons

Unsurprisingly, dungeons won’t be considered complete when we embark on a new season. It makes sense: they are one of the main sources of farming and, anyway, it is already possible to reset them yourself…

The strongholds

Activities that reward adventurers enormously, Bastions will suffer the same fate as dungeons. Maybe they will be slightly modified? It is still too early to tell. In any case, they would constitute an ideal means of renewing — a little — Sanctuary.

Side quests

As with dungeons and strongholds, side quests will have to be redone.

The points of fame

In Diablo IV, each region is linked to a progression articulated around points of fame, which are recovered by completing activities (exploration, Altars of Lilith, dungeons, etc.). This allows you to pass levels that allow you to receive various bonuses (experience, additional potion charges, skill points, etc.).

Here again, there will be a reset, except for one detail: the renown points awarded by the discovered areas (5 points) and by the activation of the Altars of Lilith (10 points) will already be affected. This will allow us to start the season with some significant advantages. For example, if you’ve revealed 20 Broken Peaks areas and found 15 statues, you’ll start right away with 250 Renown Points in that area.
