During the early access of Diablo IVthere are obviously not only monsters who have been atrociously killed…

After the latency issues at the early access launch last Friday, users are reporting that their graphics cards have also suffered. For the time being, however, the problem seems to mainly concern RTX 3080 Ti from partner manufacturers.

The Lord of Terror strikes where it hurts

If a number of players who pre-ordered the game and were impatiently waiting for June 6 were able to take advantage of Diablo IV in advance, with an open beta scheduled for this weekend, others would have been victims of a cruel disappointment.

Users have shared their setbacks on the Blizzard and Reddit forums. During cutscenes, their graphics cards were visibly bricked and gave up the ghost. Most of these cases seem to affect custom models of RTX 3080 Ti (mainly on the side of Gigabyte and EVGA). Another user reported the same problem on his Radeon RX 6900 XT.

A solution to prevent such a fateful event from happening would be to limit the number of frames per second in the graphics card control panel, more precisely in the management of the 3D parameters. Doing the same manipulation in the game options does not seem to be enough.

Users crying foul?

In light of these reports, Blizzard and the manufacturers concerned have not yet issued a statement confirming or denying the situation. For the time being, these are relatively isolated cases, the veracity of which has not yet been fully proven.

These users may simply cry wolf and seek to draw attention to themselves. Especially since a player reported the same problem on Valheim, a radically different game. Prevention is better than cure, however, if you’re considering giving it a try. Diablo IV this weekend during the open beta.

Such a situation is also reminiscent of a similar case during the launch of Amazon’s MMO New World. It was indeed running with an extremely high frame rate which had bricked several EVGA RTX 3090s, before a patch was urgently deployed to this effect. We are therefore not completely immune to such a phenomenon occurring in the merciless world of Sanctuary.
