Did Alexis Corbière betray a “defense secret”?

The deputy France Insoumise Alexis Corbière, who sits on the Defense Committee, indulged in a few confidences on France Info on Wednesday March 9. According to him, France would have delivered bullet-proof vests and anti-tank missiles to Ukraine.

While the government and the Ministry of the Armed Forces decided not to reveal the content of the arms deliveries for strategic questions, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s spokesman Alexis Corbière decided otherwise. Asked about the Ukrainian conflict and more particularly about the delivery of arms, he explained calmly that France had only sent “bullet-proof vests and a few anti-tank missiles”. Faced with the amazement of the journalists on the set, Alexis Corbière – understanding his mistake – tried to backpedal by saying that he could not say more, but that “it could look like that”.

No parliamentarian is moreover authorized “secret defense”, he affirms

If this sentence was repeated everywhere in the media, the Ministry of the Armed Forces refused to comment on this release: “we do not comment on the content of the deliveries for reasons explained many times by the Minister and the spokesperson for the French Ministry of the Armed Forces . »

The main interested party, faced with the outcry, reacted on Twitter: “According to journalists, I have violated the defense secret. False. Moreover, no parliamentarian is entitled to “secret defence”. I do not have access to any confidential information. The Elysée, the high command have spoken.
