If you are more familiar with this approach when it comes to perfumes or even household appliances, you should know that a new study carried out by three big players in the tourism sector, Expedia, Abritel, Hotel. com, highlighted this trend in the travel industry! But how has this phenomenon taken over the stratosphere of stays abroad?
According to the spokesperson for the Expedia group, Xavier Rousselou, this “principle of “dupes”, initially came from cosmetics, it consisted of finding products equivalent to those of big brands, but less expensive“. A principle which is therefore applied in the travel sector. Travelers are turning away from the most popular and tourist destinations in order to enjoy more affordable and less crowded places, as revealed by this study published this Wednesday, November 8 called Horizons 2024. We can also read that “in 2024, French travelers are looking for “dupes”, more than a third of them have already booked a destination, because it is less crowded (48%) and more unusual (40%)“.

The study then identified 10 new destinations for which searches made a huge jump between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023.
