With its Vive XR Elite, HTC wants to tackle the Meta Quest Pro. Let’s see what this offers virtual reality headset charged 1,399 euros.

An ambitious headset for wealthy gamers
Especially light (625 grams) and compact, the Vive XR Elite promises to be versatile and easy to transport. It is also possible to disconnect its rear part, where the battery is located by default (with a continuous autonomy of two hours) and to connect lighter branches there instead. Other accessories could arrive later, while it is also specified that a hot swapping of batteries will be allowed.
Of course wireless (everything connected is managed via USB-C), HTC’s solution has four tracking cameras with support for the pass-through in colour. Enough to offer augmented reality in addition to virtual reality, to obtain mixed reality.
On the lens side, there is a combined 4K resolution (3,840 x 1,920 pixels, or 1,920 x 1,920 per pancake lens) with a frequency of 90 Hz. The field of vision is 110°. Although accompanied by a pair of Vive controllers, this headset can be controlled entirely with your hands. Built-in speakers and microphones are also included.
Modularity and beautiful promises
Inside we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space. Bluetooth 5.2 or Wi-Fi 6E are there. The support of eye tracking however, will arrive later in the year with a dedicated module. Users who use it will therefore have to wait, but others will be able to afford this helmet at a lower cost. In the end, with its 1,399 euros and its solid characteristics, the solution seems on paper as much, if not more, interesting than the Meta Quest Pro and its 1,799 euros.
The HTC Vive XR Elite is available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s website. The start of shipments is scheduled for the end of February, while pre-ordering before the 15th of this month will get five games for free.
