The pair of wolves, which is currently up to mischief in East Tyrol and could have young, was, as reported, released for shooting. Farmers are pleased, animal welfare experts less so. “There is a high probability that both are currently raising their young. A shooting would mean the cruel starvation of the young wolves. This is not compatible with either the Animal Welfare Act or the hunting ethos,” says WWF expert Christian Pichler. If the suspicion of young animals is confirmed, this would be the first wolf pack in the Austrian Alps.
