Disney+ and Netflix: New Vikings series and more this weekend


February 2022 is almost over, but the streaming services haven’t released everything they have in store yet. Netflix shines with a new Vikings series at the end of February – and Disney+ has two fantastic films in store.

The spin off Vikings: Valhalla is set 100 years after the original Vikings series and will not take any characters from the show. Instead, Valhalla is about some of the greatest Vikings in history – like Leif Erikson, Freydis and the Norman king William the Conqueror. The drama-adventure series promises to be as gory as Vikings is pictured and is directed by Jeb Stuart, who credited the script for the classic Die Hard.

The new film from star director Wes Anderson combines more stars in one title than any other film in recent years. In The French Dispatch starring, among others: Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Bill Murray, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, Christoph Waltz and – you can guess – many more! Anyone who knows Wes Anderson won’t be disappointed with The French Dispatch – the quirky tale is based on a magazine of the same name published by the American outpost in 20th-century France.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is now streaming on Disney+.

And once again Wes Anderson! However, it is the animated family film The Fantastic Mr Fox an older classic from 2009. In the adventure comedy you follow the fate of a fox who just can’t stop raiding the farms nearby. When the humans want revenge, the foxes and other animals have to stick together. A wonderful children’s film that also received strong praise from critics.

with The Book of Boba Fett The next chapter in the Mandalorian universe has started: The spin-off of the popular Star Wars series follows – true to the name – the bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), who together with the mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) returns to Tattooine to claim territory formerly owned by Jabba the Hutt.

A sneak peek: Disney+ has some nice tidbits in store for March, not the least of which is the long-awaited Marvel series Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac. Moon Knight is slated for release on Disney+ on March 30, 2022.
