This October 16, Disney celebrates its centenary. Rather than keeping the whole cake for itself, the big-eared firm shares a little with its fans on this special day, through two gifts given to subscribers of Disney+.

Disney would like you to think about its anniversary, and not about the very next evolution in subscriptions (with the arrival of advertising and a price increase to access the UHD/HDR combo) and the end of account sharing on Disney+.

For this, and to properly celebrate its centenary, the company has just put online a short film for fans and a restoration of its very first animated feature film: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Once upon a time a gift for fans

The short film, available now on Disney+ (offering it on YouTube would have been appreciated, but let’s move on), is called Once upon a time there was a studio. Lasting just under 10 minutes, this one does not, as one might have thought, show behind the scenes or retrace the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios. It is more simply a “ love letter to the studio, its artists and its fans “.

543 characters from 85 films, in their own animation styles, meet in the corridors of the studio to take a photo together for the centenary. Full of references and humor, the work mixes princesses and villains, humans and animals, as well as the decades.

A classic revisited before being adapted

In addition to this tribute to its entire history, Disney has decided to return to its very beginnings for this anniversary. His very first animated feature film, The Cult Snow White and the Seven Dwarfshas just gone through the 4K/HDR restoration box on Disney+.

Once again in charge of the project with Michael Giaimo (after their recent restoration of Cinderella), Eric Goldberg said the goal was to make this story ” as beautiful and as true to the original colors as possible “. Released in December 1937, this classic will also be the subject of a live-action adaptation in 2024.
