Disney challenges Pokémon and Magic by creating its own card game

In the vast world of entertainment, Disney acts as a colossus capable of attacking anything. The company recently set its sights on the TCG field, confirming the release of its own Disney card game: lorcana. This new collectible card game will see the light of day end of 2023and it could shake up a landscape that has been in place for a few years.

“Not as competitive as Magic”

As you can imagine, Lorcana will be aimed at a rather young audience, and will rely on the Walt Disney Animations Studios universe, before considering expansions to Marvel, Star Wars or Pixar.

The notion of competition, even if it will exist in Lorcana, will take a back seat. Fans of iconic Disney figures, on the other hand, might get their money’s worth. As John Balen, Vice President of Product Design at Disney, explains, “Lorcana will contain more original Disney artwork than any other project before it“.

A board game giant as a partner

To launch its physical TCG, Disney will work with Ravensburger, a giant in the world of board games, which will provide Lorcana with a very large distribution. Confident, the two companies are counting on a TCG that will operate with no less than four sets of cards each year. According gamer, the first look at Lorcana will be given at Disney’s D23 Expo, scheduled for September 9. We hope to see some gameplay as well as info on the price of boosters!
