During an online event, Disney President Karey Burke claimed that the group would emphasize LGBT lead characters in its productions.
While the “Don’t say gay” controversy, which we were talking about here, is still alive in the United States, the president of Disney, Karey Burke, spoke about it. During an online event titled Reimagine Tomorrow, Burke stated his desire to include more LBGT main characters in the band’s future productions.
If the president concedes that there are many LGBT characters in their stories, she specifies that there is a flagrant lack on the side of the main roles.
“I speak to you as a mother of two queer children, one is transgender and the second pansexual, and also as a leader [chez Disney]. I have heard the testimonies of many colleagues for several weeks, and I feel responsible to speak, not only for me, but especially for them”she said.
“We have many LGBTQIA characters in our stories; however, there are not enough main protagonists. There are also missing stories where the characters are naturally gay, without necessarily being linked to a gay story”says Karey Burke.
The latter therefore promises that the firm with big ears will be very focused on these issues in the future, defusing the controversy and the growing revolt of a certain part of the company’s employees.
The latter have expressed their dissatisfaction with the law adopted in Florida in early March. Under the name “Don’t say gay”, this text aims to ban teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools.
Disney recently pledged to advocate for the repeal of this law. “We are committed to defending the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country”hammered a spokesperson on March 11.
