The series adapted from James Cameron’s action film “True Lies” with Arnold Schwarzenegger has been canceled after its first season.
This is the kind of project you wonder if it’s a good idea as soon as it’s announced. And this is particularly the case with True Lies, especially since a lot of time has passed between the start of the series adapted from James Cameron’s cult film and the broadcast of the program!
Launched on March 1 in the United States on the CBS channel (and on April 19 in France on Disney+), the series True Lies was finally canceled at the end of its first season, due to poor audiences and murderous reviews. A result clearly below broadcasters’ expectations, especially since the project took more than ten years to materialize!
From September 2010, then just crowned with the global success of the first Avatar, James Cameron himself had nevertheless taken the lead in trying to transpose the story of his action film, worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis, into a television series. .
Thirteen years of development… for nothing
Despite the filmmaker’s involvement, the project did not come to fruition and remained on the cards for several years before finally being picked up in 2017 by director McG (Terminator Renaissance).
Everything then seems to be off to a good start, especially since a broadcast on Disney+ is quickly mentioned, but after a few years of development, the series is again at a standstill.
It is finally only in 2021 that a new showrunner is called to the helm of the project. Under the supervision of screenwriter Matt Nix, and after numerous rewrites, the True Lies series is finally ready to see the light of day!
But the success was not there, and after thirteen years of more or less active development, the program was therefore canceled from its first season.

In True Lies, Harry Tasker is a seemingly normal office worker whose daily life bores his wife Helen who dreams of a more adventurous life. The latter is unaware, however, that her husband is actually a secret agent operating for the American government.
Note that James Cameron’s film is a remake of the French comedy La Totale! by Claude Zidi, with Thierry Lhermitte and Miou-Miou!
