At the house of The Digitalswe have put together five reasons for you to discover or rediscover this comedy like no other as quickly as possible.

Why do we need to (re)watch the series Ally McBeal ?

For its incredible cast

Ally McBealit is above all Calista Flockhart, who played the title character brilliantly throughout the series, before subsequently becoming rarer on television (series fans have since been able to see her in Brothers and Sisters And Supergirl).

But it’s also an equally effective ensemble cast that brought unforgettable characters to life. Whether it is Peter MacNicol in the guise of the strange John Cage, Greg Germann in the skin of the seducer Richard Fish or even Lucy Liu in the boots of the biting Ling Woo, the series has made many actors.

She also welcomed distinguished guests that those who don’t know the show will be delighted to see, like Robert Downey Jr., recent Oscar winner!

  • Watch one of the show’s famous dance scenes:

For its brilliant mix of genres

Between 1997 and 2002, Ally McBeal knew how to make his spectators laugh, cry and even dance. The show was both a drama and a romantic comedy, but also a legal series that often flirted with musical comedy.

So we didn’t have time to get bored in front of Ally McBeal, and the series always knew how to mix genres without ever seeming to lose its DNA. Above all categorized as a comedy despite everything, in 1999 it won the prize for best series of the genre at the prestigious Emmy Awards.

For his creativity

Series Ally McBeal stood out, from its first episodes, for its staging which reflected in a very inventive way the state of mind of its characters, and especially that played by Calista Flockhart.

Ally is a young woman with a boundless imagination and a chaotic love life. All this manifests itself on screen via a fanciful staging, the character having, for example, smoke coming out of his ears. Brilliant ideas galore reinforcing the unique character of the show.

  • An extract from the series Ally McBeaL :

For its catchy music

The credits ofAlly McBeal marked an entire generation and the voice of its interpreter, Vonda Shepard, still resonates in the heads of fans. The singer, who we also see in the series, was not, however, the only one to sing along in Ally McBeal.

Many renowned artists came to give voice in the show (like Tina Turner, Barry White or even Sting), and the actors of the series almost all demonstrated their musical talent in the bar of the Cage & Fish firm, in especially the incredible Jane Krakowski (subsequently seen in 30 Rock).

  • Robert Downey Jr. sings Every Breath You Take :

For his wonderful writing

David E. Kelley is one of the most prolific screenwriters on the small screen, to whom we owe many other series such as Chicago Hope, The Practice, Boston Publicor more recently Big Little Lies, Big Sky, The Undoing And Love & Death. But with Ally McBealhe truly created something unique, a legal series that was both touching and zany, which demonstrated inexhaustible creativity and took care to entertain while dealing with sometimes very serious subjects.

If all this doesn’t make you want to take a look at Ally McBeal, we can’t do anything more for you. But if you trust the Digitalhead to Disney+ without further delay: the streaming platform offers all five seasons of the series.
