Disney+ shows us the first trailer for the new Star Wars series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and the internet jumps for joy. Less trained Star Wars fans may even think they have already discovered the villain Darth Vader. But is that actually the case? We clarify and say what the trailer already reveals.
First things first: At the end of the First trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney + reveals the start date for the new Star Wars series – from May 25th, 2022 it will finally start. Until then, we can enjoy the pictures of the teaser trailer.
It features Ewan McGregor, who reprises his titular role of Obi-Wan Kenobi from the three prequel series, and we can even spot a young Luke Skywalker. He has no idea of his exciting future. As a reminder, Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place between the first two trilogies approximately 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

But did Darth Vader hide in the trailer? At first glance, casual viewers may be confused – black suit, on it a pale bald head … is this the dark lord without a helmet, similar to the one we already know from the movies? That’s not the case, because behind the ominous character there is a completely different fan favorite who makes a surprising appearance here.
It is the Grand Inquisitor, leader of the Inquisitors of the Galactic Empire (Source: Star Wars). They use the dark side of the Force, but were not Sith and hunted down the remaining Jedi Knights in the galaxy. They were trained by Darth Vader, but led by the same Grand Inquisitor. Ergo: middle management, if you will.
The Grand Inquisitor was previously seen in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Recently, more and more of these hitherto exclusively animated characters have been brought to life with real actors. For example Ahsoka Tano played by Rosario Dawson or the bounty hunter Cad Bane in “Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett”. This is where “Obi-Wan Kenobi” comes in and makes the world of Star Wars even more diverse and colourful.
Darth Vader later makes an appearance
By the way: Sooner or later we will also see Darth Vader, because Hayden Christensen will once again play the role of Anakin Skywalker or Darth Vader. Only in the first teaser trailer could he not be identified. Disney+ is saving this appearance for later.
