Disney+: programs not to be missed in September 2022

Always quick to make the most of its licenses, Disney+ is preparing three returns for this return to school: those of Cassian Andor, who will have his own series after his stint in RogueOneof Pinocchio and the witches of the cult Hocus Pocus.

A small series Star Wars, did you miss it? Nope ? Too bad, because the event of the month of September on Disney + is indeed Andorprequel to RogueOne, so continuation of the prelogy (you follow?). A series outsider to whom we wish success closer to the mandalorian than’Obi-Wan Kenobi. This return to school will also mark the return of Pinocchio in a flesh, bone and wood remake by Robert Zemeckis. You will also be able to see or review the excellent series sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

September 8 will also mark Disney+ Day, with a lot of content launched for the occasion, including an anime in the universe of Cars and another with Spider-Man. At the end of the month, we will finally be able to discover the rest of Hocus Pocusstill with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.

Event of the month: Andorfrom September 21

After the Boba Fett and Kenobi disappointments, it might not be worse than Star Wars returns to Disney+ with an outsider. Cassian Andor isn’t the best-known character in George Lucas’ universe, probably not the most interesting or even the most heroic. But precisely, this is what intrigues us in this series that not many people expect, but which promises beautiful things.

Tony Gilroy, screenwriter of the excellent RogueOne from which the title character hails, returns as showrunner with ambitions far different than previous forays into the galaxy far, far away. If the trailers are to be believed, Andor proclaims the return of a political dimension abandoned for a long time – since the prelogy in fact. The atmosphere is sticky guerrilla warfare, latent conflict between soldiers and men of power, with the hope of a rebellion which is in its infancy. We come across relics from another time, the galactic senate of Coruscant, the Death Troopers, space battles in TIE Fighter… To which we must add the returns of Forest Whitaker and Genevieve O’Reilly in Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma and the presence in the cast of Stellan Skarsgård. The last time Disney bet on a relatively unknown character gave The Mandalorian. We cross fingers !

We are curious: PinocchioSeptember 8

Disney continues to turn its animated characters into flesh and blood. Finally, for this one it may be a little more complicated, since after Beauty and the Beast, Cruella or Simba, it is the turn of the most famous puppet in the world to move on to the real world. The good news is that the project is overseen by a string of great talents, between Robert Zemeckis in the production, Tom Hanks in Geppetto and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Jimini Cricket. The plot should strictly follow that of the 1940 animation classic; we are therefore expecting a great show – which, by the way, we would have liked to see on the big screen. What to wait before Pinocchio animated Netflix, scheduled for December and under the leadership of Guillermo Del Toro, which looks much darker, but just as promising.

We will be happy to see: sherlockSeptember 7

Already available on Prime Video, this modern BBC-produced retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle has won over audiences for its decidedly different approach to the character from the pipe-and-dick-based clichés.“Elementary my dear Watson”. The modern Sherlock, interpreted brilliantly (and humorously) by Benedict Cumberbatch, is quasi-autistic, texts and is particularly unpleasant towards his peers, for our greatest pleasure. The cast is also brilliant from start to finish, with in particular an absolutely enjoyable Moriarty in the guise of Andrew Scott, and a perfect Watson played by Martin Freeman. In short, a classic.
