Disney+: this fully shot series was canceled before it aired!

The Disney+ streaming platform has announced the cancellation of series fully shot but not yet broadcast.

The Disney empire is experiencing an unprecedented crisis. While the year will end with a very negative financial balance sheet, due in particular to the failure encountered by the films The Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones 5 and Ant-Man 3, a major austerity plan has just been launched to allow the company to reduce its expenses by up to 3 billion dollars.

Among the measures taken by the group’s management, numerous waves of massive layoffs, but also the non-renewal of the rights to broadcast programs included in the catalog of its streaming platforms.

Many films and series will therefore soon leave Disney+!

But that’s not all, since original productions are also affected by this austerity plan, including series that have been shot but have not yet been broadcast. Thus, it has been decided that the series The Chronicles of Spiderwick (based on the eponymous bestseller books) and Nautilus (adapted from Jules Verne) will not ultimately be broadcast on Disney+.

A decision that comes as the filming of these two series has already been completed. The objective of the leaders of Disney + is therefore to resell the broadcasting rights of these two productions to other platforms to reimburse the production costs, and other productions could suffer the same fate.

Our colleagues from Deadline reveal that Disney’s priority will now be to focus on franchises wholly owned by the company, such as the Percy Jackson series (adapted from books published by the publishing house Hyperion Books, also owned by Disney).

Exceptions could nevertheless take place, as for the series Goosebumps (co-produced with Hulu) or for the new episodes of Doctor Who expected for this fall (co-broadcasted with the English channel BBC).
